Regulatory approval and compliance

We adhere to all applicable compliance standards for information security and flight operations—so you can deploy confidently in the air and in the cloud.

Aviation Approvals

The Beehive system is cleared to operate across the United States under FAA Part 107 waiver and throughout Europe under EASA SORA authorization. In other regions, approvals are handled case-by-case by our regulatory support team.

Wherever you're located, we’ll work with you to confirm regulatory clearance for your site and assist with any compliance needed to get up and flying.

Cybersecurity Certification

Our Information Security Management System (ISMS) is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 by an accredited auditor. Certification confirms that our risk-based controls—spanning access management, encryption, secure development, vendor oversight, incident response, and business continuity—are designed and operating effectively across our drone platform and cloud services. Access the certificate and see live status of compliance in the Drata Trust Center.

Security that adapts to every environment

Whether you're securing a single home or a sprawling industrial network, the Beehive system adapts to deliver intelligent protection.

Frequently
asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Pricing & availability

What is the price of the system?

Pricing depends on property size, configuration, piloting hours and location. You can use our Design Your System tool to get a customized estimate. As a general guideline, the cost of operating our system ranges from $4-7/hr after it is installed for continuous operations.

How long does delivery and installation take after ordering?

Standard delivery and installation takes 8–12 weeks, with shorter timelines available for volume orders.

Where is the system currently available?

We are currently shipping to customers in North America, Europe, Japan, Australia, and Argentina.

Where can I see a demo?

A recorded demo is available on our videos page. Live demos are available by request. Contact Sunflower Labs to schedule one.

Drone operations

How long can the drone fly on a single charge?

Our battery system is optimized for rapid reusability and frequent flights. Most of our customer flights last around 5 minutes. The battery can support up to 20 minutes of total flight time depending on weather conditions. However, we generally allow for around 15 minutes of operational flight time and reserve the last 5 minutes for safe return and landing.

Our most important battery-related metric is total flight time per day. Our system allows our customers to have the Bee flying for up to 8 hours per day if you are performing 10-minute flights every half-hour.

How long does it take to fully recharge?

The recharging takes approximately 2x the flight time. For example, after a 5 minute flight, it takes 10 minutes to reach full charge. A 10-minute flight will take 20 minutes to recharge. If the battery is completely depleted, it takes around 30 minutes to fully recharge.

How much area can one system cover?

The Bee has a maximum operational radius of ~600 m (1,800 ft). However, coverage depends on what is considered a suitable response time. Covering larger properties takes longer. Use the Design Your System tool to see coverage on your property.

Can multiple Beehives work together to protect a larger property?

Yes. Multiple systems can be deployed and coordinated to extend coverage.

Do I need a pilot for the Bee?

While the system is fully autonomous, most countries require that you have a pilot-in-command (PiC) connected to the system when the Bee is flying. The PiC can be you, your security company or one of the remote piloting services that we partner with. For most of the time the PiC will not have to interact with the Bee, only observe the operations and react in case of an emergency.

Remote piloting and monitoring service are detailed in the Design Your System tool.

Where should I install the Hive?

The Hive should be installed in an open area with clear sky access, ideally on a flat roof or ground location with about 2 m (6 ft) of clearance around it. The installation location should include access to electrical power (110V or 220V) and internet via an ethernet cable (6 Mbps speed up and down). Internet can be provided via an optional 5G modem or Starlink (not included).

Will I need to charge the Bee?

No. The Bee is fully self-charging in the Hive.

Can the Bee operate indoors?

No. The Bee is optimized for outdoor environments and is not designed for indoor use.

Can the Bee be installed on a moving object (e.g. vehicle, vessel)?

No. The system is designed for fixed-site security and is not intended for moving platforms.

Integration & response

Can the system connect to security systems, external alarms and camera analytics?

Yes. The system can be integrated with most modern security systems. We support most commercial Video Recording Systems (VRS) that can be configured to display RTSP streams. We also provide a webhook endpoint to trigger events. Sunflower Labs also provides an open API.

Can a monitoring center view the video and dispatch guards or police?

Yes. Video can be shared with monitoring centers, enabling dispatch of security personnel or authorities.

How does the system deter an intruder?

The Bee acts as a highly visible presence, recording activity and alerting operators in real time.

Can I talk to intruders through the Bee?

No. The Bee is not equipped with a speaker or a microphone.

Cameras & payloads

Can the drone operate at night or in low-light conditions?

Yes. The Bee is equipped with low-light cameras, and thermal imaging can be added as an optional payload if needed.

What payload options are available?

We offer a modular camera payload that can have either a single low-light camera or a version that includes an optional thermal camera.

Can I install charging docks around my property to extend range?

At this time, the Bee operates from a single Hive. Additional coverage can be achieved by deploying multiple Beehives.

Legal & privacy

Is the system legal and does it have regulatory approval?

Yes. Sunflower Labs complies with all applicable drone regulations and assists customers with required waivers or licenses.

How does the system handle privacy?

All footage belongs to the customer. You can export or delete data at any time, and choose your preferred storage location. Performance logs are anonymized.

Where is video from the Bee stored?

By default, video is stored securely in the cloud, but storage location and retention can be configured based on customer location and needs.

Can the Bee recognize faces?

No. The Bee detects people, vehicles, and animals but does not perform facial recognition.

Support & reliability

What happens if the drone needs repairs or breaks down?

During the lease, Sunflower Labs ensures your drone stays healthy and will replace it as needed.

What do I do in case of a problem with the Bee?

Operators can use emergency controls (return to base, immediate landing, or motor cut-off). Sunflower Labs support is also available for assistance.

What are the temperature limits of the system?

The system is designed to operate in a wide range of outdoor conditions. See the specifications for more details. For extreme environments, specific configurations may apply.

Other questions

Is the Sunflower Beehive system already shipping?

Yes. Sunflower Labs has been shipping systems since 2022.

What happened to the Sunflower sensors?

The original Sunflower motion/vibration sensors are no longer developed or sold as standalone products. The focus is on the drone system and integrations with third-party sensors.

Can I get a refund for my pre-order?

Yes. Customers with existing pre-orders can contact Sunflower Labs support for a refund.
